Canada’s housing market weakened through Q2, but the national decline masks sharp regional differences, with single-detached construction particularly affected. Meanwhile, contractors in British Columbia face growing exposure as project equity erodes and insolvencies rise. Stronger holdback practices, careful contract terms and disciplined receivables management are becoming increasingly important as construction conditions create greater financial risk across the sector for contractors.
